As one of our shorter lists, we still received over 40 promos in the genre this year, but nothing really stood out, except for these releases. The genre seems to be sinking into a repetitive phase that we hope 2019 fixes.

In 2018 we got a great deal of old-school Death Metal albums that provided little to nothing to the annals of music. Luckily, there are always bands pushing the boundaries and innovating in the genre. Here is our list of the favorite albums we reviewed in 2018.

Never published in 2017, we found one of the most killer 'Best of..' lists hiding in the dark depths of our laptop. The year 2017 was a great one for Black Metal and here are our picks of the best of the best.
Honorable Mention: Patria – Magna Adversia (2017)
Tons of new bands and one-man projects appeared in 2017 playing Atmospheric Black Metal, for every twenty average ones we have one decent one. This list contains the releases we most enjoyed and the bands that should be in your radar.
Honorable Mention: Sunken – Departure (2017)
Doom Metal is one of our favorite genres, while some years lack good releases, 2017 was a very strong one. We had a hard time selecting the best albums and this list reflects a wide variety of Doom Metal variants.

2017 was a great year for music in terms of crazy good releases from established bands including some highly anticipated albums. Our list tries to pick albums from all genres as you can side for the wide variety of bands.
