Top 25 albums of 2015

2015 came and went with tons of good metal releases. Many of the long-awaited albums turned out to be quite solid, while a few duds fell off the radar thanks to quality newcomers. Overall, this list presents what we think was some of the most awesome things we reviewed in 2015. Please note that albums like Arcturus “Arcturian”, Deafheaven’s “New Bermuda”, and My Dying Bride’s “Feel the Misery” should be in this list but since we did not review them, we did not include them as this list is for the top 25 albums of  2015 we reviewed.

Top 10 Doom-ish albums of 2015

With so many genres bleeding into each other, and us not being huge fans of 'traditional Doom', we present our top Doom-ish releases that include Death-Doom, Atmospheric Doom, and some more exotic variants. Other good albums we did not review but are worth mentioning are: My Dying Bride "Feel the Misery" and Swallo the Sun "Songs From the North "

Nucleus Torn – Neon Light Eternal (2015)

cover

After their impressive 2014 release “Street Lights Fail”, Nucleus Torn returns with one last perplexingly beautiful release titled “Neon Light Eternal”. Featuring three songs and clocking in at around 40 minutes of music, Fredy Schnyder’s experimental outfit delivers one hell of a swan song. If you though the band’s last releases have been weird, you are in for quite an experience with this one.

Opening with the mellow and Jazzy “A Declaration of Mistrust”, we instantly get a glimpse of Anna Murphy’s enchanting vocals. This track again reminded us of a mixture of Lethe with Tenhi/Empyrium thanks to the dramatic Neo-Folk passages weaved into this track. The whole proggy/jazzy vibe in this track is amazing, and considering it lasts 22 minutes, we are very amused at the wide variety of elements and influences introduced throughout that keep the song fresh and engaging.
