Season Of Mist

  • Watain – Lawless Darkness (2010)

    cover

The best Black Metal album of 2010 has finally arrived with “Lawless Darkness”. Yes, we know it’s early but we are calling it right now. We don’t think that any other BM album will be able to beat this masterful release. With 3 years on the works “Lawless Darkness” is here to rip you a new one.

Hailing from Sweden, Watian is one of the few true artists remaining in the current Black Metal scene crowded by posers and pussies. Under the moniker of “Black Metal Reborn”, Lawless Darkness has very much achieved and surpassed this expectation. The album is a journey into the occult with a brutal soundtrack.

  • Ava Inferi – Blood Of Bacchus (2009)

    cover

Having formed in 2005 Ava Inferi presents us their 3rd full length album. The band shows great maturity and improvement in their already characteristic sound, with “Blood Of Bacchus”.

Ava Inferi’s mixture of Doom Metal with Gothic elements is unparalleled, blending the traditional Doom riffs with mesmerizing female vocals provided by Carmen Simões, and the guitar work is provided by none other than Rune "Blasphemer" Eriksen from Aura Noir (the self labeled ugliest band in the world) and Mayhem, which he left in order to fully concentrate on Ava Inferi.

  • Various Artists - Hellfest Open Air 2008 Live (2008)

I just received my DVD on the mail a few day ago since it took almost 1 month to get from France to the USA, but anyways, I was pretty anxious to pop it on my DVD player, which by the way the DVD says is region free, but PAL format, however my regular DVD player played it to perfection, so you don’t have to worry about it. The DVD contains the following recorded performances listed by day:

  • Cantata Sangui - On Rituals And Correspondence in Constructed Realities (2009)

This is one of the most interesting bands I’ve found recently, apparently they have been around for a while releasing several demos in a span of several years, and just now released their debut album through Seasons Of Mist.

This band hails from Finland and features members from Enochian Crescent, and their musical style is very unique I must say, they mix death/black and gothic metal in a very weird way.

  • HDK - System_Overload (2009)

HDK is the brain child of Sander Gommans from After Forever fame, so naturally I was very excited about this release. Now that After Forever split-up I’m looking for some band to take their place. Well let me tell you HDK is not that band, while I was impressed by reading all the people that participated in this project: Amanda Sommerville, Andres Matos and Arjen Anthony Lucassen to name a few, this album just does not deliver in my opinion.

This album seems like a composition of random thoughts materialized in music, some parts are really good and some other ones are very bad. The album contains a mixture of genres that becomes annoying after a few songs. I don’t know how people can like this release as a whole, since while there are good parts and some of the guest performances are very good, as a whole it’s just bad.
