Elitist - Fear in a Handful of Dust (2011)

cover

Elitist unleashes a brand new fury among the masses with a combination of death and black metal and sludgecore. Hailing out of Portland, Oregon the quartet takes you through the depths of despair with Josh Green’s screams of anger that’s only met by a blazing hatred of screeching guitars and pummeling drum work.

The opening track, “The Unspoken Gospel” slams in you in the chest and crushes you with an unseeingly evil force only to be followed by “Cult of Malevolence” that carries some incredible double-pedal drumming supplied by Nickolis. “Ivory Shavings of the Tools Unknown” brings a heavy bass line and a trudging rhythm that only adds to their rage. “Watch as They Worship, Yet Be Silent” is incredibly morbid and haunting with a pattern of insanity that makes you wonder if it will ever stop. ”Fucked and Force Fed” comes in a form of crushing guitars from Taylor and Josh’s vocals that sound absolutely inhuman; one of my favorite tracks by far. “Tower of Meth” ends it with pure fury; starting out slowly but gradually building up with shredding guitar riffs and Josh’s continual venomous wails.

“Fear in a Handful of Dust” is an incredibly well-done album that will keep you on edge throughout and leave feeling unsettled. Elitist continues to spread their message of hypocrisy of the government and religion and abolishes the idea of herd mentality. Those who are in agreement with these messages should pick up a copy immediately!
