Enshine – Origin (2013)

cover

Being huge fans of Atmospheric Death/Doom Metal, we have been following this collaboration for a while and finally we have “Origin”, Enshine’s debut full length release that is as majestic everybody expected. Featuring Jari Lindholm and Sébastien Pierre, this band delivers nine tracks of brilliant atmospheric Doom passages with powerful growls and a very melancholic vibe. Recorded in a span of two years, “Origin” is one release that will keep you entertained for quite a while.

Opening with the lush atmospheric elements of “Stream of Light”, the band sets the tone for a very impressive release since the initial stages of this album. With a vibe similar to bands like October Tide and Forest of Shadows, Enshine focuses their energy in delivering powerful atmospheres surrounded by excellent guitar work. Not being 100% predictable, tracks like “Refraction” blend some synth-pop elements into the bands melancholic sound.

The progression of tracks like “Cinders” and “Nightwave” showcase the band’s ability to shift the momentum and tempo of a track very effectively between aggressive sections and melodic interludes. The musicianship of the music presented in “Origin” is top notch and every track has little details that reveal themselves the more your listen to this release. The instrumentals “Astrarium” and “Immersed” greatly improve the atmosphere of this release and serve as bridges between more direct and heavy tracks.

The lush “Above Us” is our absolute favorite track in this release since it feels quite fresh and unique to the genre, thanks to its intricate keyboards. “Constellation” provides the perfect closer for a very atmospheric release with even more lush passages. The band nicely fits in the distorted guitars with the melancholic pianos to deliver very powerful and emotional melodies.

With impressive music and an impressive production, “Origin” is one of those melancholic releases that you can’t stop listening to in order to discover all its secrets. If you like highly atmospheric Death/Doom music, you need to get this release from Enshine. We are quite surprised with the high quality of this release (and band), and we can’t recommend this release enough to fans of October Tide, Even Song, Katatonia, Forest of Shadows, and similar bands.
