Unleashing eight tracks and nearly 40-minutes of crafty Stoner/Doom Metal, today we have Restless Spirit with their eponymous 4th full-length release. With an engaging sound similar to outfits like High on Fire, The Sword, etc., the band crafts some hard hitting riffs that keep the listener headbanging from start to finish.

Opening with the warm fuzziness of “The Burning Need”, the Stoner/Doomy vibe is instantly set as Paul Aloisio’s vocals nicely drape this opener. The riff power is strong in this release with crafty tracks like “Hallowed”, “Red in Tooth and Claw”, and “Desire Lines” further cementing a very lively atmosphere that weaves back and forth between catchiness and heaviness.

Breaking up the pace, the slow acoustic “Ember” nicely prepares the listener for the final stretch, featuring the two longest tracks in this release. With “Time and Distance” we get one of the band’s most complete and engaging songs, featuring superbly catchy hooks and piercing guitar leads. While the closer “Phantom Pain” further showcases the band’s gnarly riffs alongside crafty drumming, a throbbing bass guitar line, and a very cathartic closing.

Overall, “Restless Spirit” is an excellent release for any fan of the genre. The album is filled with memorable riffs, crafty and catchy song structures and an overall lively attitude. The band’s sound is quite polished and very typical of the genre, what makes them stand out is their ability to craft engaging songs that are both fun and technically proficient.
