Pact - God Only Knows (2022)

Unleashing an hour of hellish old-school Black/Death Metal, today we have Pact and their latest full-length release “God Only Knows”. Featuring an assortment of traditional Black/Death Metal tunes and some more sinister and atmospheric songs, this release nicely shakes things up when they start to get a bit repetitive.

The release starts with the blistering album title track and its fierce melodic riffing. With a certain old-school vibe, pieces like “Magick Black” and “The Oracle” give us that punishing and yet filled with attitude style that bands like Venom had, but with a harsher edge. However, what makes this release more interesting are songs like “Awakening the Nine” and “Mortal” that take a more atmospheric angle with ritualistic clean vocal arrangements and sinister tempos.

With renewed energy, the band mercilessly punishes your speakers with hellish tracks like “Crucifier”, “Path of Illumination” and our personal favorite “The Eternal Black Flame”. As a whole, “God Only Knows” is a very interesting and relentless release that combines old-school influences with newer and more atmospheric elements to craft a very dense and sinister sound. Definitely recommended for fans of fast and punishing Black/Death Metal.
