Mawiza - Iñ Mongeletew (2026)

For those fans of Wardurna and Heilung that want something less Nordic and considerably heavier, we have Mawiza. This Chilean outfit sings in Mapuzungun, the language of the Mapuches, and in this EP titled, “Iñ Mongeletew”, they deliver five tracks and over 22-minutes of Groove Metal mixed in with traditional sounds and instruments. Creating very unique mixtures of sounds, this is one of those unique bands that you can’t miss out on.

Opening with the ritualistic “Mür”, you get that Heilung/Wardurna vibes but within a completely different concept as the hypnotic drumming is surrounded by vocal arrangements. Continuing to cast their trance on the listener, “Wüzapiwken” and “Wingkawnoam” are slower pieces that are quite engaging and further develop the band’s traditional sounds. Our favorite track has to be the solemn “Wingkawnoam”, a very melancholic piece that is very subtle and yet powerful.

Closing with “Ti Inan Paw-Pawkan”, Mawiza finished this ritualistic EP in a lush and masterful way. While the heaviness and grooviness of their previous full-length release is not here, the bare-bones and stripped down approach works very well with the band’s cultural influences and traditional sounds. Some of the tracks in this release are reimagined versions of “ÜL”, and still carry the same intensity, just under a different set of constraints. If you like Folk music with its traditional instruments, and are ready from a different cultural infusion, check these guys out.
