Neurosis - An Undying Love For A Burning World (2026)

Completely unexpected and totally out of the blue, 2026 sees the return of the mighty Neurosis with none other than Aaron Turner on vocals and guitars. If the band’s return wasn’t enough, they also dropped a monumental release with the crushing “An Undying Love For A Burning World”. With over 63 minutes of music, the band takes the listener through their cavernous and visceral sound, delivering some of their finest songs to date.

Ripping things wide open with the crafty “Mirror Deep”, we get the back coming back in their best form with a wall of punishing riffs and massive drumming. The addition of Aaron Turner is quickly evident with his signature snarl alongside Steve Von Till’s. The band’s sound has always been quite cavernous and filled with slower and atmospheric sections, and the opener alongside “First Red Rays”, and “Blind” continue the tradition. There is a certain sense of hopelessness that the band masterfully conveys through their crushing distortion alongside subtle and yet powerful atmospheric synths, point in case, the pummeling and yet hypnotic “Seething and Scattered”.

The first half an hour has the band just warming up, as “Untethered” arrives with masterfully layered guitars alongside funky tempos and playful experimentation. Creating a very bleak atmosphere with lush percussions, crafty guitar work, and sublime atmospherics, “In The Waiting Hours” is one of those quintessential Neurosis songs that slowly builds up and delivers several climactic moments. Saving the best for last, “Last Light” is an anxiety inducing piece filled with walls of distortion that will quickly induce non-stop headbanging, alongside some experimental weirdness.

As a whole, “An Undying Love For A Burning World” is a crushing release that almost nobody saw coming in 2026. The band has not lost a step, and even after 10 years they come back and unleash one of their most complete and masterfully crafted releases. Even when looking back at their expansive catalog, this release fully captures Neurosis in its full glowy, with a few twists and turns. If you are a fan of the band and/or Post-Metal/Sludge in general, releases don’t get much better than this one, so jump on it.
