Afsky - Fællesskab (2025)

Having taken the Black Metal scene by storm in the last few years, Denmark’s Afsky returns with another piercing release filled with violence and oozing melancholy titled “Fællesskab”. As a one-man battalion, Ole Pedersen Luk, has managed to unleash some of the rawest and most demoralizing BM of the last couple of years and the tradition continues with this masterful release and its over 45-minutes of punishing music.

Opening with a playful children’s song sample, “Velkommen til livet” quickly transitions into a full-on cavernous exercise of intricate riffing and unsung melancholy. The blistering guitars and melancholic tempo immediately lets the listener know they will be in for a treat. Ole’s ability to create crushing melodies is front and center as “Den der ingenting ved tvivler aldrig” and “Arveskam” continue leveling everything in their path. The band’s signature guitar driven nature is even more precise and deadly as on their previous releases.

Far from linear, Afsky never gets boring or predictable as Ole’s riff arsenal is varied and highly creative, as “Natmaskinen” changes the pace of things while creating a very immersive and depressing atmosphere. It is quite surprising how no gimmicks or extra elements are needed to create such fierce music with a very moody vibe. The band’s non-stop headbanging momentum continues as “Flagellanternes sang” and the monumental “Svanesang” keep the onslaught brutal, and yet crafty and delicate with the later track.

As a whole, “Fællesskab” is one hell of a demoralizing release filled with masterful Black Metal onslaughts that only Afsky can pull off. With tons of bands in the genre, this Danish battalion keeps things simple, punishing and highly crafty, making them stand out from the rest. If you are looking for piercing and savage BM with a certain raw edge alongside a brilliant production, look no further than this release. We can’t wait to hear these songs in the live setting, where Ole brings the intensity to 11 every single show.
