The master of weirdness and experimental madness, Gautier Serre, returns with Igorrr’s fifth full-length album titled “Amen”. Featuring over 40 minutes of extremely engaging and totally deranged music, this release continues the band’s tradition of not being bound by any genre, while adding additional heaviness and with a certain live-setting edge that makes the music more digestible and headbangable as well. Opening with the dramatic arrangements of “Daemoi”, the stage is set for one hell of a ride, featuring lush vocal arrangements and crafty instrumentation. Of course the electronics create some chaotic dissonance that is the brilliance of Igorrr. The use of unconventional elements and interesting percussions and arrangements, creates unique tracks like “Headbutt”, “Limbo”, and the crazy “Blastbeat Falafel”, which are all brilliant in its own insane way. We certainly identified with the chaos and awe of mostly instrumental “ADHD” and its video-game-esque edge. There is a certain level of heaviness on songs like “Infestis” and “Mustard Mucous” that brings the band’s sound to a more traditional one, but once a certain funky percussion and atmospheric element appeared, we are certainly back in Igorrr’s madness. Another favorite track of ours has to be the dreamy and trippy “Ancient Sun” thanks to its crafty and diverse vibe. As the release closes with the solemn and yet very elegant “Silence”, we are left in awe of how Igorrr can manage to combine all kinds of crazy elements into a very chaotic, but yet cohesive and enjoyable experience. While we are still missing vocalist Laure Le Prunenec, the band has continued very well with Marthe Alexandre handling the female vocals, and “Amen” clearly highlights her talents mixed in with the Serre’s bonkers abilities to create truly unique and engaging music. |
