Bestial Mockery - Christcrushing Hammerchainsaw (2010)

With “Christcrushing Hammerchainsaw” Hell’s Hedbangers has re-released one of the best underground albums of Black/Trash Metal ever made. Bestial Mockery was a Swedish band that played Black/Trash Metal in the vein of Venom, Sodom, Bewitched and Bathory.

The band never reached wide acclaim or recognition, but all their releases hold a special place in all the fans of old-school Black/Trash Metal. Featuring 26 minutes of music in 10 tracks, you know you are into a wide ride from start to finish. The album starts with pure aggression and never stops.

We usually don’t like that much chaos in our music, but Bestial Mockery does a great job in mixing furious blastbeats, punk rythms and melody (yes some melody) all together. The band’s musical skills might be questionable, but they can sure as hell put together simple, brutal and catchy songs.

The crazy solos and the shrieks are the extra element that makes the songs really stand out. While tons of bands can pull off this style, Bestial Mockery has that extra edge on them when it comes to creating short and direct songs. The overall mix of the album is very raw: very thin drumming, bass guitar barely present, powerful guitars and discernable shrieks. This might not be the most complex thing ever, but it gets the job done.

If you like Black/Trash Metal, then this is the release you have been waiting to be made available again. Most bands these days can’t play as gritty as Bestial Mockery does. All songs are equally good, but the title song holds a special place in our hearts because of the chainsaw samples.
