    Jewish Juice – Hidden Into Rotten… With a Black Flame of Light (2007)

    Hailing from Italy we have Jewish Juice. This Italian band plays a mean combination of Trash/Death and Black Metal. “Hidden Into Rotten” is the band’s second release and shows signs of a good band that needs to mature a little bit. The album mixes 3 very chaotic tracks with two tracks that are very solid, showing the band’s future potential.

    The band’s musical style needs to be refined a bit more since the combination of genres is sometimes annoying since there are several Death metal oriented tracks mixed with Black Metal songs, and we would prefer that those things are either properly combined or just pick one genre. This is usually the problem we find with beginner bands, they want to do many things but they can’t merge them together properly.

    Jewish Juice – Soaring Above Death (2009)

    After listening to Italy’s Jewish Juice second release “Hidden Into Rotten… With a Black Flame of Light” we were very interested to listen if the band’s talent was going to be consolidated into creating a better release than “Hidden Into Rotten”. For our general surprise the band has done a great job in maturing and crafting their own sound and not needing to throw a bunch of shit together in order to sound brutal or different. With “Soaring Above Death” we get 5 songs that really show what this band is capable off.

    In “Soaring Above Death”, the band has come to terms and decided to go with a Black Metal foundation that has Death Metal influences, but it’s never chaotic and badly constructed like on some songs of their previous release. The vocals still vary between growls and BM screams, but they feel more uniform and never get to be obnoxious.

    Withershin – The Hungering Void EP (2010)

    Today we have a short-but-sweet EP from this Swedish quartet that plays Black Metal. Withershin was formed since 2006, in just a few years has managed to release a demo, a full-length CD and this EP that feels more like a maxi-single since it only lasts 15 minutes.

    The three tracks in this EP showcase a mature band that plays a very solid Black Metal that would rival any of the other mid-level bands in Sweden and the world. Since there are only three songs we will use the dreaded song-by-song review approach.

    Triumfall – Antithesis Of All Flesh (2010)

    Hailing from Serbia today we have Triumfall, a Black Metal band signed on Infernus (Gorgoroth) Forces Of Satan label. After listening to this release for a few times, we still have mixed feelings about this release. The production on this album is somewhat crappy in our opinion since the drumming sounds very bad sometimes, but it might be what the band was shooting for.

    The band plays a very interesting Black Metal that is very melodic in nature and has plenty of keyboard highlight here and there. This makes us remember the old days of demo tapes we received from bands from countries like Mexico, where they used keyboard highlights on plenty of Black Metal releases. While this sounds good, it also sounds very amateur because of they way they are written, maybe the keyboard player has limited skills, but they sound a bit simple.

    Setherial – Ekpyrosis (2010)

    Long standing Swedish Black Metal underdogs are back with yet another brutal release that will be unleashed upon the world on June 14th. The band has always been playing second fiddle to the likes of Marduk and Dark Funeral, and we now think it’s their time in the (bigger) spotlight.

    With crushing drumming, hyper fast riffing and brutal vocals “Ekpyrosis” is one the band’s most brutal releases to date. We did not liked the band’s ‘new’ vocalist in their last album “Death Triumphant”, but now he feels more integrated into the band and ready to scream his lungs out in this fine release.

    Watain – Lawless Darkness (2010)

    The best Black Metal album of 2010 has finally arrived with “Lawless Darkness”. Yes, we know it’s early but we are calling it right now. We don’t think that any other BM album will be able to beat this masterful release. With 3 years on the works “Lawless Darkness” is here to rip you a new one.

    Hailing from Sweden, Watian is one of the few true artists remaining in the current Black Metal scene crowded by posers and pussies. Under the moniker of “Black Metal Reborn”, Lawless Darkness has very much achieved and surpassed this expectation. The album is a journey into the occult with a brutal soundtrack.

    The Breathing Process – Odyssey: (Un)Dead (2010)

    Out of all the bands we have reviewed recently, The Breathing Process is by far the one that combines to most influences of different genres in their music. With a very impressive (but sometimes terrible) mixture of Black/Death/Gothic Metal with some Melodeath and even Metalcore-ish influences we get “Odyssey: (Un)Dead”.

    After their very impressive debut album “In Waking: Divinity”, we could not expect anything less from this young American band, but we also got a bit disappointed at some points during this album. The band fails to mix their elements together and ends up sounding extremely chaotic and redundant in some places.

    Keep Of Kalessin – Reptilian (2010)

    After releasing amazing albums like “Armada” and “Kolossus”, we have Keep Of Kalessin’s latest offering with “Reptilian”. And let us tell you that the band did not failed to deliver another brilliant Black Metal assault that will make all the Black Metal posers weep in despair. Keep Of Kalessin is back with a very brutal release that will surely be considered one of the top Black Metal albums of 2010.

    With it’s unique riffing style (for Black Metal), this band revamped the genre back in 2006 with “Armada” and continues to keep pushing the boundaries of Black Metal to the extreme. “Reptilian” opens up with a very epic song “Dragon Iconography” and it’s immediately evident that the band has been taking more influences of old-school Trash/Heavy Metal and NWOBHM bands for their riffing assaults.

    Eclectika – Dazzling Dawn (2010)

    Hailing from France, today we get a very unique Post-Black Metal band that is not afraid of pushing the boundaries of music. This French trio plays a very well balanced mixture of raw Black Metal with experimental elements that makes “Dazzling Dawn” a very refreshing album that is both aggressive and very melodic.

    Starting off with a very symphonic intro, you are set to expect something like Dimmu Borgir or similar Symphonic Black Metal bands, but instead you get a very raw BM approach with some female vocals. All this for 2 tracks and then it changes into a very melodic acoustic ballad that could be from any Gothic Metal band out there. This is pretty much how the album flows, featuring a wide variety of styles and elements put together in a very intricate way.

    Gjenferdsel – Varde (2010)

    Hailing from Norway we have yet another Black Metal band!, and this one is one of the good ones from what we can hear with “Varde”. This two man outfit has a very similar sound to Gorgoroth and we really dig their music. But don’t think they are a carbon copy since they add their own elements to make their sound different.

    As you know we don’t usually compare bands to the all-mighty Gorgoroth unless they are pretty solid and Gjenferdsel has won this comparison based on their efforts over the years. Varde” is the band’s second full-length album and features 10 songs all sang in Norwegian, adding that extra level of authenticity to the bands music.
