Jewish Juice – Hidden Into Rotten… With a Black Flame of Light (2007)

cover

Hailing from Italy we have Jewish Juice. This Italian band plays a mean combination of Trash/Death and Black Metal. “Hidden Into Rotten” is the band’s second release and shows signs of a good band that needs to mature a little bit. The album mixes 3 very chaotic tracks with two tracks that are very solid, showing the band’s future potential.

The band’s musical style needs to be refined a bit more since the combination of genres is sometimes annoying since there are several Death metal oriented tracks mixed with Black Metal songs, and we would prefer that those things are either properly combined or just pick one genre. This is usually the problem we find with beginner bands, they want to do many things but they can’t merge them together properly.

Jewish Juice has all the right elements in this release; they just need to arrange them properly. The band’s riffing is very strong and somewhat diverse. The drumming is very tight and goes up from rhythmical to blast-beat levels when needed. The vocals switch between growls and BM screams nicely, and never get dull. As you can see, as individual elements they are pretty solid, but when put together in tracks like “A New Dawn”, “Torch of War” and “Night” they sound extremely chaotic and disorganized.

However, tracks like “Death In Winter” and “Quantum est Quod Nescimus” have very solid Black Metal style riffing, and structure that makes them crushing and very well written. These two tracks make this release for us worth owning. They also show that the band can make good music, with the song “Quantum est Quod Nescimus” clocking around 7:20 minutes, it’s a clear example they can write epic BM assaults.

Since we received the band’s last two albums on the mail, we will save the ‘brutally honest’ comments until we have reviewed their latest release and verify how much the band can get better (or worse) between releases. However, “Hidden Into Rotten” is a pretty standard release that features only two very good songs (in our opinion). But it’s worth having since it’s better than a lot of the shit bands put out these day
