Australia’s finest Tech Death Metal export, Psycroptic, is finally back with another heavy hitting release “The Pulse of Annahilation”. Constantly improving and refining their craft, I don’t think this band has any bad release, and with this new one, they showcase their abilities to write crafty songs that are engaging, intricate and never overdone. For over 38-minutes the band mixes fierce brutality with technical proficiency in a very balanced and powerful way.

Opening with “Ashes of a New Dawn”, the band sets a very hectic and engaging mood with blistering guitar work and superbly crafted drumming. While the obvious comparisons to outfits like Obscura, Necrophagist, etc. can be made, Psycroptic has their own style and never deviates from their balanced sound. As they pummel through songs like “A Sword Of Me”, “No Time For The Weak”, and “Our Pillars Fall”, with the band inserting subtle atmospherics and additional elements to keep things fresh and dynamic.

With a very explosive and yet atmospheric vibe, “Annihilation Pulse” is our favorite track in this release, thanks to the very organic tempo changes and dreamy atmospherics. There are certainly no bad tracks in this release as “No Blade of Grass” cranks up the heaviness while the more dramatic “Forging the Crown” allows the guitar work to shine quite organically. As a whole, “The Pulse of Annihilation” is one hell of a release that easily stands out from the rest in a crowded genre. While not the heaviest or the most over-the-top technical, this release delivers perfect balance and maturity, making it one of the best releases of the genre in 2026.
