Fires In the Distance - Circadian Promise (2026)

Unleashing their third full-length release, today we have North American Melodic Death/Doom Metal outfit Fires In The Distance. Having gathered quite a momentum with their excellent first two releases, this outfit demonstrates they are the real deal as they keep on plowing with the polished and sophisticated “Circadian Promise” album. For fans of bands like Dark Tranquillity, Wolfheart, Abstract Illusion, Thurisaz, and Countless Skies, this band creates some truly epic music.

Opening with the expansive “Of Radiance and Levitation”, we get a bit of a familiar vibe to Countless Skies and their latest release, but with the band’s own elements. Setting such a high bar with the opener, the release actually keeps getting better and better as “To You, Author of My Fade” and “Lightless Days Of A Songless Bird” roll around. The band’s ability to create masterful atmospherics alongside very engaging guitar work and a plethora of vocal styles ranging from growls, Black Metal screams, and clean vocals, allows them to be quite dynamic and always exciting.

While most of the longer tracks have longer progression and are allowed to develop slowly, shorter pieces like “By This Time Tomorrow” have that magical Doomy/Melodic Death Metal vibe that bands like Insomnium and Swallow the Sun have mastered over the years. Far from one-dimensional the band also crafts some truly magical and engaging atmospheric passages like on the later song. Closing strong with the Doom antics of “Once The Silence Takes Your Place” and “Agonal Dreaming”, the band delivers some crafty drumming and vibrant tempo changes.

As a whole, “Circadian Promise” is one of the best Melodic Death/Doom Metal we have heard in quite a while, delivering in all aspects. Fires In The Distance is the real deal and a worthy North American representative in a genre that is mostly dominated by European outfits. The band’s sound is polished, mature, quite expansive, and very dynamic, allowing them to create truly memorable and explosive songs. Do not miss out on this gem in 2026.
