Bringing back some memories of the good old days of White Zombie and their seminal “Astro-Creep: 2000”, Rob Zombie is set to unleash “The Great Satan” this February. While we haven’t kept track of his musical antics for quite a while, it is nice to hear that the music is still fun, heavy, and full of catchiness. Featuring fifteen tracks and nearly 40 minutes of music, this release has something for his fans of any period of Rob Zombie’s career.

Opening with the one-two punch of “F.T.W 84” and “Tarantula”, catchiness takes center stage alongside meaty riffs and Rob’s signature snarl. Things continue to get interesting as “(I’m a) Rock ‘N’ Roller” gave us some nice White Zombie-meets-Marilyn Manson esque vibes, while “Heather Days” unleashes the heavier side of the band, and “Black Rat Coffin” delivers the playfulness we expected.

Moving into horror rock/punk vibes, “Sir Lord Acid Wolfman” and “Punks and Demons” keep the party going with funkiness and pummeling guitars. We personally love the more complex songs like “The Devilman” that feature a more cohesive, and yet highly catchy sound. However, others might appreciate the more Industrial nature of “Revolution Motherfuckers”, as one of the many facets of Rob Zombie as an artist.

Overall, “The Great Satan” is a very comprehensive release that showcases the many faces and many talents of Rob Zombie while delivering crafty and engaging songs that will stay in your head for days on end. Keeping true to its nature, Rob Zombie is one of those musicians that stands the test of time and while you always know what to expect, there is always a fun and entertaining edge to his music.
