Keeping the momentum going after the release of their killer sophomore album “March of the Unheard”, The Halo Effect is back with an EP filled with cover songs. Imprinting their signature style onto some iconic tracks, showcases the band’s fun and energetic, revamping some of your favorite tracks. While most songs here have been released as singles already, there is certainly a high replay value as the songs are as catchy as you can imagine. Starting with WASP’s “I Wanna Be Somebody”, we get a very lively rendition of this track with Mikael Stanne’s snarl delivering the goods. In catchier and more atmospheric territories, “ Dance with the Devil” has that engaging folky vibe that is masterfully adorned with choir arrangements. Turning into darker and more Cemetery Skyline-esque territories, “If You Were Here” of Kent has that mixture of magical clean vocals and sultry instrumentation. The explosive Broader Daniel cover of “Shoreline”, showcases the band with their signature Melo-Death style, making it one of the most enjoyable covers here. Closing with the moody cover of Danzing’s “How the Gods Kill”, where Mikale again shines delivering his clean rendition of this track. Overall, “We Are Shadows” is one of those EP releases that will appeal hardcore collectors and regular listeners of the band alike, as we get to hear more of the explosiveness of the band within familiar contexts. |
