Teramaze – AnhedoniA (2012)

cover

Delivering some of the most uninspired music we have heard in quite a while, today we have Australia’s Teramaze and their latest full-length “AnhedoniA”. Mixing Progressive elements with a Modern Metal foundation, this band fails to evoke any emotions or sympathy for this release due to the blandness and repetitive nature of their music.

With 11 tracks, “AnhedoniA” is one of those releases that no matter how many times you play it, it always blends in the background due to its unexciting nature. The band indeed has musical skills since the guitar work and the drumming are well executed, but the linearity of the music and vocals totally kills this release for us.

Opening with “Anhedonia”, this release deceives you into believing that it has potential since this track is actually somewhat catchy and well crafted. The vocals sound at times like Metallica (in the past), and the guitar work is engaging, too bad that after this song all the other ones sound exactly the same. The guitar solos on “Through the Madness” would have made a good song great, but in this average song they just get dragged down with the rest of the music.

As the albums goes by and tracks like “Black Circles”, “Proverb Le Jame”, “Fears of the Unknown”, and “Egostatic” make their appearance, you can hear that all the guitars sound exactly the same. The keyboards here and there are nice and change things up a bit, but they ultimately can’t rescue this release from mediocrity.

If you like your songs to all sound the same, then “AnhedoniA” is an album you should get. With only one decent song in it and all others trying to be rehashes of it, we can’t really say we enjoyed this release. The musicians in the band have skills, but they need to lose the vocalist and write different songs for next time. On top of everything, it also seems that the band is Christian, so be warned/informed about this before buying the release.
