Becoming one of the premier Heavy/Power Metal bands in the scene has been no small feat for Finland’s Battle Beast. With “Steelbound” the band showcases their sheer power and catchiness with nearly 40-minutes of high-octane music. Noora Louhimo signature vocals have made the band shine from the rest, and with this release she is ready to propel her band to new heights. Opening with the ridiculously catchy and speedy “The Burning Within”, the band makes a strong statement with crafty instrumentation and soaring vocal melodies. Giving some Nightwish-meets-Sonata Arctica vibes, songs like “Here We Are”, “Steelbound”, and “Twilight Cabaret” feature extremely engaging chorus sections and very engaging atmospheric elements, giving the band a mixture of epicness and playfulness that almost nobody else has. Songs like “The Long Road” and “Blood of Heroes” showcase the band’s more cinematic edge, with the latter being one hell of an epic song with soaring vocals, giving some eerie female-fronted Sabaton-esque vibes. The band’s musical core is hard-rocking and very retro at times, with dreamy songs like “Angel of Midnight” and its lush synths alongside simple but crafty drumming. Other songs also showcase some lively futuristic Folk-ish influences like the brilliant "Riders of the Storm”. Overall, “Steelbound” is one hell of a catchy and engaging release that showcases a band that has honed their skills perfectly and are just making slight adjustments to sound even better. Noora Louhimo is a vocalist at the level of singers like Doro, Floor Jansen, and Brittney Slayes to name a few, greatly complementing the band’s musical skills. If you like epic, melodic, and super catchy Heavy/Power Metal music, do not miss out on this amazing release. |
