The West-Virginia trio is finally back, with a super-powered full length release 8 years after “Almost Heathen “. The band got back together in 2009 and it’s been rocking the stages since then. Combining groovy melodies with stoner rock influences, “Appalachian Incantation” is a mostly acoustic release (except for 2 songs) that will rock you out of your chair. Keeping their tradition of naming most songs with numbers, we get a full scale riff-athon in “Appalachian Incantation”. Each track is super catchy and will make you want to dust off your old guitar and start jamming right away. The band’s music making skills are better than ever and have produced 9 brilliantly groovy tracks that power “Appalachian Incantation” straight into Stoner Rock hall of fame. Kicking off with “44” the band quickly grabs the listener’s attention and never let’s go. The vibrant combination of bass guitar, guitar and drumming is excellent from start to end. Clearly showing that Karma To Burn excels at creating catchy melodies that will stick in your head for days to come. The vocals on the songs “Waiting On The Western World” and “Two Times” are ok, but they kind of killed the flow of the album for me, but they do provide a nice change from the other tracks. The overall southern rock influence is very clear in the band’s music and keeps their sound very appealing and different from most releases these days. Out of all the albums we have reviewed this 2010, we must say that “Appalachian Incantation” is one of the most different and rocking albums we have hear. This release will surely creep into your usual play list and stay there for quite a while, so get off your butt and get this brilliant album. |
