    It is rare these days that you play an album and you find yourself confused about what is going on. That is the initial feeling we got when listening to Erdve’s “Epigrama”, as we couldn’t figure out if the release was a hardcore, sludge, or Blackened Death Metal release. Unleashing eight tracks and around 42-minutes of music, this outfit unleashes some truly raw and nasty riffs alongside coarse vocals and a very oppressive atmosphere.

    Opening with the album title track, the band quickly escalates the aggression with ravaging guitar work. As “Myra”, “Skepsis”, and “Ydos” roll around, it is very clear that the band is on a whole other aural level with its suffocating sound that bleeds some Sludge and even Industrial elements that masterfully unnerve the listener. There is just something that this band has that makes you want to start headbanging and moshing uncontrollably.

Featuring a futuristic and yet pretty crushing sound, this British trio unleashes all hell for over 24 minutes. With hefty influences from bands like Mysticum and Malignant Eternal, the band also incorporates additional influences to create very engaging and atmospheric songs.

    It has been quite a while since we heard from Melechesh and their unique Black/Death Metal, thankfully “Sentinels of Shamash” is a little taste of what is to come from the band. Featuring three songs and over 21-minutes of music, mastermind Ashmedi returns with a vengeance. Filled with aggression and a hefty dose of melody, this release showcases the band hasn't lost a step and it is ready for bigger and greater things.

    Hailing from Brazil, today we have Progressive Death Metal outfit Abstracted and their captivating sophomore release “Hiraeth”. Featuring a very well crafted and intricate sound that reminds us of bands like Obscura, Persefone, and similar outfits, the band unleashes seven tracks and over 50 minutes of high-octane music. Highly recommended for fans of crafty and well executed music, this release is full of surprises.

    Opening with the expansive “Axis”, the band sets a very lively vibe with soaring vocal arrangements, intricate bass guitar lines, and very engaging tempo changes. Things get heavier with the powerful “Languish”, a song that features Chaney Crabb of Entheos on guest vocals. The band’s ability to switch from full on Prog mode into heavier territories is perfectly showcased in the magical “Sirens”, a very engaging song full of technical wizardry and engaging melodies.

    After a series of demos over the years, Atlanta’s Malefic unleashes their debut full-length with the crafty “Impermenance”. Delivering nine tracks and around 38 minutes of high-octane music, this release is for the diehard fans of Black/Death Metal with plenty of melody and aggression. Headbanging from start to finish, this album will leave you neck sore and wanting more.

    Opening with the dynamism of “Blood of the Throne”, we immediately get a taste of the technically mature and proficient abilities of the band in crafting catchy and engaging songs. As the band pummels through tracks like “In Darkest Dreams”, “Of Gods and Man”, “Idiocracy”, and “Deserter”, we further appreciate the band’s core influences taking elements from old-school Death Metal greats like Grave, to Blackened Death Metal influences from Dissection and Necrophobic.

    Keeping the flame of old-school Swedish Death Metal alive, Centinex returns with their crushing latest full-length release “With Guts and Glory”. Unleashing eight tracks of chugging riffs and alongside a stern snarl and crafty drumming, the band shows no signs of aging. Recommended for the nostalgic metal head, this release brings back the days when bands like Grave and Entombed ruled the scene, with fierce guitars and plenty of headbanging.

  • Azure Emote - Cryptic Aura (2025)

    Delivering one of the craftiest and weirdest Death Metal releases of 2025, today we have Azure Emote with their fourth full-length release “Cryptic Aura”. Featuring ten tracks and over 42 minutes of madness, this release combines lush instrumentation with pummeling drumming and playful riffing. Led by Mike Hrubovcak (vocalist of Imperial Crystalline Entombment), and featuring Mike Heller on drums and Pete Johansen (ex Sins of Thy Beloved) in violins, the band’s music is quite diverse and very engaging, with plenty of interesting details to discover in subsequent spins.

    Blasting away with “Into Abysmal Oblivion”, the band’s monster drumming leads the way into crafty tempo changes with masterful guitar leads from Ryan Moll and the lush violins of Pete Johansen, creating a very unique atmosphere. Slowly building up the madness, tracks like “Insomnia Nervosa”, and “Aeons Adrift” perfectly balance some crunch Death Metal antics with over the top atmospherics, all while creating a very chaotic and consuming vibe. The band excels in creating very busy soundscapes that are cohesive and engaging, while being very exploratory as well.

  • Cryptopsy - An Insatiable Violence (2025)

    Canadian legends Cryptosy are back with one of their most vicious releases with “An Insatiable Violence”. Showing that the ‘old guys’ can hang out with the younger Brutal/Technical Death Metal crowd, the band further elevates their sound to be more brutal and faster in this one. Featuring over 33 minutes of music in eight tracks, the band makes a pummeling statement with this release.

    Blasting away with “The Nimis Adoration”, one immediately notices that Matt McGachy vocals are more vicious and mean this time around,and so are the crafty guitar leads of Christian Donaldson. The band has managed to keep up with the times while still keeping their signature style, and unleashes bangers like “Until There's Nothing Left”, the blistering “Fools Last Aclaim”, and the more melodic onslaughts of “The Art of Emptiness” and its deep growls. All in-all, the band alongside Dying Fetus, are standing the test of time with their music.

  • Fallujah - Xenotaph (2025)

    It is quite impressive how far has Fallujah come, from their early Deathcore days, to their current Progressive/Technical Death Metal style. With “Xenotaph”, the band continues to polish their skills and delivers the best album to date. It is brutal, it is technical, it is fast, it is crafty, it basically has it all, and fans of the band and the genre will be blown away as to how good it really is.

    Setting the mood with “In Stars We Drown”, we get a very dreamy and ethereal piece, similar to Persefone cranks out, but with the distinctive Fallujah style. From here on, the rollercoaster ride begins with the crushing “Kaleidoscopic Waves” and its intricate guitar work, “Labyrinth of Stone” and “Step Through the Portal and Breathe”, and their Death-like tempo changes and crafty melodic interludes . The band’s abilities to craft songs that perfectly blend heaviness with melody and technical prowess have greatly matured over time and are beyond masterful here.
