Getting a very special sold-out show, San Francisco was graced by Faroese artist Eivør and Norwegian Sylvaine, for a very intimate and packed evening. Getting stuck on their way down from Oregon to California due to severe weather closing down the highways, both Eivør and Sylvaine managed to fly down on their own to give a once in a lifetime show without Eivør’s band. Luckily for all of us attending, this show went on without a hitch and allowed the attendees to enjoy these two talented singers and musicians.
Opening with Sylvaine as a solo artist this time, the crowd quickly calmed down and allowed themselves to be enchanted by her mesmerizing singing abilities and crafty guitar playing skills. For five songs the crowd was completely quiet and moved by her performance, which indeed included some harsh vocals that greatly pleased the Metalhead crowd that also attended the event. Sylvaine’s magical performance felt short in time, but was all around magical and quite different from what we get with her full band.
Sylvaine setlist:
Dagsens auga sloknar ut
Mørklagt
I Close My Eyes So I Can See
L’Appel du vide
Eg Er Framand
Having seen Eivør over the summer at Rockstadt Extreme Fest 2024 with her band, this was a rare opportunity to listen to her music in a more stripped down fashion. Playing songs that she has not played in a long while, Eivør’s roots came front and center without the additional elements that her band brings to the show. The songs were quite heartfelt and very engaging, allowing the sold-out crowd to feel them in a different context. We did get some tracks with her piano player on stage, adding a bit more dynamism and extra layer to an excellent set.
Eivør setlist:
Verð Mín
Rain
Bridges
Ein klóta
Hugsi bert um teg
Purpurhjarta
Skyscrapers
Famous Blue Raincoat (Leonard Cohen cover)
Lívstræðrir
True Love
Hymn 49
Trøllabundin
Encore:
Falling Free
Overall, this was an excellent show that almost didn’t come together. We are thankful that both singers gave powerful performances and everybody was captivated from start to end. Do not miss out on this tour as it continues across the USA.
Thanks to the super friendly staff at Cafe du Nord and Will at Season of Mist for making this coverage possible and letting us grab a raised corner in the venue to be able to take our pictures.
