Interview with Beissert

Infernal Masquerade: Thanks for the interview, and let’s get started:

I.M: First of all why did you named the band Beissert and what does it mean (all that we could find is that it is a last name)?

This is my family name. In an old pomerelian dialect it’s also the word for dog and it sounds pretty similar to the German word for bite. There are a lot of possibilities to interpret it but no clear meaning, its fine with our music. …ah, and of course it substantiates my primacy. I like it!

I.M: Featuring a wide variety of musical influences and merging several genres together, Beissert is probably one of the most unique sounding bands in the last few years. Can you tell us how the band managed to craft this amazing sound?

It is just: four guys in a room. We never had in mind to “create something special”. We met us one day by a fluke and decided to make a band. We are quite different characters, have not very much in common but when we turn on our amplifiers…there is magic[k]! The people always tell us that we would make odd, strange and unusual tunes. Some mean it positive, some not. …but for us it is the only logical way.

I.M: “The Pusher” is the band’s latest release, what is the main concept or ideas behind this album?

The main theme is darkness! …in a spiritual, transcendental meaning. I read a lot and so I always find new aspects. People – or life can be spoiled by darkness, for others it’s like a religion. Darkness can protect you or even hurt and kill you. it is a beast and the way to handle it is the way you live your life. …if you are a victim or a conqueror. sometimes i say that we play songs of wolves, witches, war and wrath. This includes everything important. The primordial in us, love and magic, victory and defeat and finally inner conflicts, loss, anger, grim. These things are driving me.

I.M: How long did it take you guys to craft this demented release? What is the main inspiration that goes behind Beissert making music like this?

We are writing songs all the time. Some of the pusher songs we wrote four years ago, shitloads we rejected and some of them just a few weeks before we went into the studio. The recordings took two weeks in a nice studio in Hamburg. It was a cold winter, a frozen lake. We had a blast. The inspirations are always multiple. Present, memory, all the music, all the books. Two month before I listened only a handful of old records to get the right vibes…a blaze in the northern sky, de mysteriis dom sathanas, under the sign of the black mark, to mega therion…

I.M: Being signed to Agonia records, Beissert is not exactly the label’s usual band. Can you tell us how the band scored a deal with them? Where you guys nervous about how this label was going to handle the release of “The Pusher”?

Fillip just dropped us a line that he likes the stuff. I was totally flashed. Agonia was [and still is] one of my favorite labels. I love their releases and I am absolutely proud to be part of their artist roster. I knew from the beginning that they will do an awesome job and they exceeded my expectations. And I mean…for which label we would be a “usual” band?

I.M: Any shows in the works in support of “The Pusher”?

Not really. We were pretty lazy but want to play more in the next time. …but we play shows, from time to time.

I.M: What are the future plans of Beissert? Any new music on the works? What do you guys plan to achieve with the band?

We already working on our next record. To have the chance to release records is a great privilege. The only real plan is to create the perfect album one day. Hopefully we are on the right way but I guess there are some more records to come till we reach it.

I.M: If you guys had unlimited budget for a live show, what would you use to transmit the full Beissert experience to the crowd?

A stage decorated like a kitschy, unsophisticated sitting room with a wall unit and armchairs. We dressed in hand sewn suits and tons of bones gallons of blood dumped over the audience.

I.M: Anything else you want to add for our readers and your American fans?

I heard it’s hard to tour in the states. But we don’t give a fuck! We will come, looting and pillaging and kick your asses…huh!? Thank you very much for the review and for giving us the possibility for that interview.

Thanks for the interview and good luck promoting the new album
