Infernal Masquerade: Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions and let’s get started:
George Charalambous: You are very welcome!
I.M: Winters Verge sounds like a dramatic name, how did you guys came upon this name? Was everybody in the band in agreement to use it?
G.C: Winter’s Verge is a name Stefanos (keyboards) and I (George- Vocals) came up with some time ago when we were starting to form the band. Miguel (Bass), Harry (Guitar) and Chris (Drums) were not in the band at the time. The name comes from that melancholy, melodic and dramatic feeling that you get when you know that the winter is about to come. That is what we try and reflect through our music as well.
I.M: “Tales of Tragedy” is the band’s third full-length album. Can you tell us more about the concept and ideas behind the album?
G.C: ‘Tales of Tragedy’ is the bands 2nd full album. The ‘Another Life…Another End’ album is the demo to the first album – ‘Eternal Damnation’. There is no real concept behind ‘Tales of Tragedy’, other than the song ‘I Swear Revenge’, which is the continuation to the song ‘Eternal Damnation’ on the first album. Basically all the songs are written as if they are little stories that stand alone by them selves. The way you open a story book that has different small tales. Tales of Tragedy.
I.M: The band recently toured with Stratovarius can you tell us some of the experiences you had during the tour? Any crazy or weird stories?
G.C: The whole experience was truly amazing! We learned a lot about different aspects of touring. I learned how to take care of my voice and how to be able to cope with cold winter days (that we don’t really have in Cyprus J ) There were a lot of little funny stories but nothing out of the ordinary. We were all behaving well…. J
I.M: If there going to be any more touring planned in support of “Tales Of Tragedy”? Maybe some US dates?
G.C: Nothing is for certain at the moment. We don’t know for sure if we will tour again within the next couple of months, but a US tour would be something that we all want to do!
I.M: What is the goal that you guys set when you formed Winters Verge? Did you ever imagine it would take you to touring with Stratovarius and such? Were do you see the band in a few more years?
G.C: We started out just playing the music that we love to play. Things suddenly changed and we got the chance to tour with one of our biggest influences! Time is flying like a speeding bullet and we don’t know where we will be tomorrow! At the moment our only concern is to expand our fanbase.
I.M: The Power/Progressive Metal scene is very crowded, what do you think makes the band stand out from all other bands?
G.C: We just play the music we love; I don’t know if our band stands out from other bands. I guess that’s just a matter of taste.
I.M: Have you guys started thinking about the next album?
G.C: Yes we have actually. Some of us have thrown a couple ideas on the table. I believe we know what we want to do, but nothing is certain.
I.M: Hailing from Cyprus, we don’t get to review many bands from this country. How is the Metal scene over there? How much work did it too you guys to stand out coming from a country with a somewhat smaller Metal scene?
G.C: The Metal scene is relatively small, but we are all dedicated! There are quite a few bands in Cyprus and gigs happen quite often around the island, considering the amount of metal heads. We worked very hard. I for example have been doing this for 14 years. We all had to give a lot of time and dedication to this band in order for this to happen. That and a little luck to go with it! J
I.M: Anything else you want to add for your fans and our readers?
G.C: Thank you for reading, and we hope to see you down the road soon!
Cheers and Keep Rocking!
I.M: Thanks for answering the questions and good luck with the new album promotion.
