Infernal Masquerade: You guys just played at WGT 2011, what impressions do you have from this gig?
Newun Welten: First of all it was a great festival and we enjoyed it a lot. We played on friday at Heidnisches Dorf and besides some technical problems which occured during our show and the daylight ;-) (we played at 14.30) for us it's been quite a nice show. But we're not the ones who decide :-).
We also played with Tim our new drummer for the first time and he did a very good job! Also the audience has been great and very thankfull! It was amazing to look in all the dreamy faces, even if it was not a decent darker athmosphäre or a perfect sound! We were very glad about all the positive feedback we got! So...we really enjoyed being at the WGT :-).
IM: Being the 20th anniversary of the festival and the importance of the festival, how was you reaction when you where selected to play?
NW: To be honest, at the time we were "accepted" for the billing, we haven't been aware of the anniversary but of course it's a honour for us that we could play there with so many other fantastic bands like Katatonia, Empyrium of course, Dornenreich, Les Discrets...and, and, and! So we felt very, very lucky and honured to play there.
IM: Having released "Destrunken" two years ago, any word on
when the new album will come out?
NW: It's way to early to talk about a release date. During the last year we had some very huge changes, because our flutist and our drummer quit to play with Neun Welten anymore for job related reasons.
But after all we are working on new songs and they are gonna be different from what we've done so far. At the moment we are very keen and motivated on producing new songmaterial but we also want to take our time to try and work things out :-).
IM: Creating imagery through music is something that requires skill and time, how do you guys get inspired to write songs?
NW: It's a hard thing to talk about Inspiration. But I think we all are inspired by a lot of things. For example there is nature, then there is the unfathomed mysterie of life. There is the weird mankind, the human being and his nature. So we muse about all that from time to time and together we try to express our mood with the music in the best way we can.
IM: If you could pick a 'super line-up' for a festival, which bands would you like to share the stage with?
NW: We like so many different bands...and there are a lot who we like to share the stage with. Of course there would be a lot of bands, we share our label Prophecy Productions with, like Tenhi, Dornenreich, Alcest, Les Discrets....just to name some. Then there should be bands like Sigur Ros, Agalloch, Yann Tiersen. But thats just the tip of the iceberg and if we should name each band we'd like to play with the whole festival would last weeks ;-).
IM: If you ever had unlimited budget for a live performance, how would you choose to bring the band's sound to life?
NW: Oh there are great opportunities. We would like to buy (and play of course) a Marimbaphon the ones which costs like a middle class Mercedes. The sound is awesome. Then we would have a Steinway piano for a couple of songs. There would be a middle sized orchestra and a choir. The stage would be in the woods or in an old ruin with view to the sea. Furthermore there would be a huge projection combined with a magic light show...haha I like this idea!
IM: Anything else you want to add for the people in North America that listen to your music and are hoping to see you guys live one day?
NW: Guys don't give up the hope, we hope so too and would love to come over once a time! Thanks for your support!
