Infernal Masquerade: Thanks for taking time to answer our questions, and let’s get started. Necronomicon has been around for over 15 years, can you tells us more about how you feel the band’s sound has evolved over all these years?
Rob: I think it has evolved at the same paste that extreme metal as evolved, since the band is been around since the beginning of that scene. Of course things are a bit different, we were more basic at first and with time started to add more ambiance and texture to our music as well as faster beat and blast.
I.M: “The Return Of The Witch” is the band latest full-length album (which will be released on June 8th), can you tell us more about the concept and ideas behind this monumental release?
Rob: The concept go around the awakening of the feminine energy that we all have in us and need to rise for human race to be in a closer contact with the universe and everything that include it. Everyone as the Alpha and Omega vibe, but most people are driven by the Alpha vibe and that no matter which sex that person is, the Omega is the spiritual energy that s been forced down be the brainwashing church and false cult to be sure to have control on the world, when mankind will reunite both force, they will rise over the masse and become master on their own destiny to be able to site on their right place among the gods.
I.M: Where did you guys got the idea of using the diabolical sounding choir arrangements? Are you going to use samples when plating them live?
Rob: We already have been using samples for years and female vocals and ambiances has been part of what we do since the 2 album in 95 so the choir part is only the natural evolution of the female vocal that we were doing and let’s say that we didn’t had the budget to do it that way in the past so doing choir parts was just a matter of time.
I.M: With all the uninspired Black/Death Metal releases, in your opinion what do you think makes Necronomicon stay fresh and keep releasing interesting sounding albums?
Rob: I think we just do what we have to do and don’t bother anymore about what people think or say about not being true and all that crap. Being true for me it’s not about satanic things or crap like that but just doing what you think it’s right original or not. We are comfortable in what we are doing and that’s what’s important.
I.M: Will there be another 6 year wait between releases? Have you started thinking what is next for Necronomicon
Rob: We really hope it won’t take that long for the next one, but for now we have to work on this album first and we are looking for touring right now, hopefully we will be on the road in the next months. Of course we have songs and concept already in process but we ll be working on that in a bit.
I.M: The Canadian metal scene has been getting noticed more and more in the last few years with bands like Augury, Threat signal, etc. How is the relationship between the bands? What do you think is the main reason behind ‘making it’ in this scene?
Rob: I know Augury but don’t have any real relationship of any kind with these guys. We are not hanging out much in the scene. I don’t know why exactly the scene as been better here but it’s a good thing for sure, I really won’t complain about that. I think that people in the industry realized that we have amazing bands here and that we can do well as any band form US or Europe and it seem to get better with years.
I.M: If you could make a super band with any musicians dead or alive, whom would you pick? And what kind of music would you play?
Rob: I do exactly the kind of music of wanted to do and to be honest I’m not really interest and doing something else with anyone. It sound maybe weird but the guys I’m working with right now are the ones that I like to be with and there’s no other people , famous or not , that I would like to have . At the end it’s a matter of getting along and looking in the same direction to get a band somewhere.
I.M: Imagine having unlimited budget for a stage set-up, what would you use in order to provide the full Necronomicon experience to fans?
Rob: Wow that I really can’t answer that hahahahahahahaha! It might give some ideas to people and I like better keep that for me since some bands have took my ideas in the past and after you are told to do like they do, so I won’t comment.
I.M: Anything else you want to add for your fans and our readers?
Rob: Thanks a lot to you first and I hope to see you all on tour soon.
Keep the spirit alive.
I.M: Thanks for the time and good luck promoting the album.
