Sleeping Pulse - Dreams & Limitations (2026)

Twelve years after their debut release, Sleeping Pulse finally returns to deliver waves of melancholy, similar to bands like Antimatter, Anathema, and Porcupine Tree. Featuring Mick Moss of Antimatter and Luís Fazendeiro of Painted Black, this duo focuses on creating emotionally charged songs, filled with intricate details and tons of subtle atmospherics. While Anathema is the most direct comparison, the band has their own unique voice and style, creating magical melodies.

After setting a very ominous vibe with the instrumental album title track, the band’s sound explodes in melancholy with the crafty guitars of “Rise”, and the scene is fully set with Mick’s vocals coming front and center. With Fazendeiro handling all the music, we can hear his very minimalist and yet effective style immediately on tracks like “Illuminate”, “The Butterfly Collector” and “Two Wreaths”.

Exploring masterful interchanges of atmospheric passages with more firm and ‘heavier’ sections alongside Mick’s vocals, this duo creates pure magic, as our favorite “The Coinstraint” showcases. The expansive “Extrasolar”, leverages a longer runtime with a more delicate build-up, creating lush atmospheric moments as the song reaches its high points with soaring vocals and dramatic guitar leads, this song is a close second favorite of ours.

Overall, Fazendeiro and Moss are a perfectly complementary duo, allowing the music to fully develop with putting the cherry on the top with high quality vocal melodies. Full of melancholy, and brimming with musical craftiness, “Dreams & Limitations” is one of those rare releases that is engaging and effective from start to end. If you have never heard of this group and like bands like Anathema and Antimatter, you are completely missing out.
