Brutal Assault #27 - August 7-10, Josefov, Czech Republic - 2024

Being based in North America, we always plan our festival coverage early in the year. However, one festival we try to never miss is Brutal Assault. We have been attending for the last 7 years, minus the COVID-19 years and we absolutely LOVE it.

Here are our reasons why you should consider attending this excellent event this (and every) year:

  • It is one of the best run festivals: There are always minimal schedule changes, all bands start perfectly on time, sound is usually perfect, and there are tons fo things to do.
  • Band selection: There is always a good mixture of Black, Death, Power Metal, and some old-school Hardcore bands. There is literary something for nearly everybody, that is if you like heavy music.
  • Location: The Josefov fortress is one hell of a venue with plenty of room to chill, mosh, drink, eat, and recover from long days of listening to music. Also, the Czech Republic is a big Beer drinker destination, so all the local brews they sell at the festival are super tasty.
  • Best bang for your buck: If you have been to the Scandinavian festival, you need to mortgage your house/apartment to attend. Here, in Eastern Europe, the prices are very accessible and the quality drinks/food you get at BA is top notch. We have attended most of the larger festivals in Europe and around the world, and we keep returning to this one… every single year.
  • Weather: Usually, since this is one of the later festivals in the season, it is less brutally hot. While thanks to global warming, this has slightly changed, it will still be cooler than some of the June/early July fests. However, be prepared for everything as we have seen: hail, torrential rain, freezing evenings, and blistering heat through the years so be prepared.

What are our pro-tips for attending this event?

  • Be prepared: We bring sunscreen, rain gear, boots, sandals, summer clothes and warm clothes with us. Depends on the day and the forecasts, but it is always great to be prepared.
  • Cashless Festival: Pay with a car or cash and load up your wristband, no need to be carrying local currency/bills/coins, this is soooo much easier.
  • Eat at the festival: There are tons of different options to eat inside, so support the organizers by having all your meals here. You can find very limited cheaper stuff outside, but sometimes it is just gross.
  • Drink a lot: And we mean both water and beer. We love Czech beer, but also keep hydrated as it can get super hot during the day.
  • Buy your hotel/shuttle pass early: It is super convenient to stay at some of the festival offerings as they include your shuttle to and from the event. These are usually super well organized and run very often and on time (as indicated on their schedule). Sadly, there are almost no announcements of when these go on sale, so make sure to check over and over until you secure your accommodation.
