The Iniquity Descent – The Human Apheresis (2012)

cover

Featuring Mathias Lillmåns of Finntroll fame on vocals, today we have The Iniquity Descent and their debut full-length “The Human Apheresis”. Playing a very traditional and average Black Metal, this upcoming band still has a long way to go before we can say they are a force to reckon with.

Delivering ten blows of powerful Black Metal, “The Human Apheresis” is one of those albums that immediately after the first track you start wondering if you already heard the next song, because they are all very similar and repetitive. Don’t get us wrong, the riffing is quite powerful and the drumming is superb, but the quality of the songs is constantly lacking since the band repeats the same sections over and over until you stop caring.

“In Prostation” sets off with a very strong core of dual guitars and tight drumming, the screams are pretty solid as well reminding us at times of Watain and similar raw-but-understandable Black Metal bands. “An Empty Temple” pounds away with a very similar riffing structure and the whole release goes down the same way. There are a few different tempo changes, drum pattern adjustments, but overall all songs seem to sound the same when enjoyed in a casual manner. When paying attention to them, we started to grow antsy and begin yawning after 10 minutes of nothing new to pay attention to.

If you like your Black Metal repetitive and dull, this release might be of interest. While The Iniquity Descent is not a bad band, they still have a lot to develop before being able to craft their own sound and even a few different songs. The rawness and brutality is there, the musicianship is there, is just the creativity that is lacking and for this we can’t really recommend this album to lovers of fine Black Metal.
