Sylvaine starts our list with her impecable mixture of atmospheric elements with Post-Black Metal / Blackgaze influences that hipnotize listeners since the first note of this release. |
Sorrowful masterpiece that came seemingly out of nowhere this year. Blening multiple Post-genres, this is one of the most original releases of 2016. |
8. Neurosis – Fires within Fire (2016)
Facing rough competition in 2016, Neurosis didn't capture the top spot, but their album continue to melt the faces of their fans on a daily basis. |
7. The Holeum – Negative Abyss (2016)
Killer debut from this Spanish outfit that shows off a fresh take on the genre will keeping things heavy and punishing. |
6. Svoid – Storming Voices of Inner Devotion (2016)
Svoid manages to create a very unique sound that could be compared to a mixture of Amesoeurs and Watain. We are sure this will get your attention now. |
Karg is the solo project from JJ of Harakiri for the Sky. While capturing the melancholic essence of said band, Karg takes thing to a different level with other creative elements and influences. |
4. Cult of Luna and Julie Christmas – Mariner (2016)
One of the oddest collaboration of 2016 actually worked out great and gave us one killer release that no fan of Cult of Luna should miss. |
3. Thränenkind – King Apathy (2016)
Never holding back, this outfit crafted a hauntingly beatiful release that is both complex and depressing. |
2. Harakiri for the Sky – III: Trauma (2016)
Perfectly translating raw emotions into music, M.S and J.J have crafted one of the most emotionally charged releases of the year. |
1. Downfall of Gaia – Atrophy (2016)
This German outfit managed to deliver the most powerful and crushing Post-Black Metal release in a very elegant and seemingly effortless way. |
