2015 came and went with tons of good metal releases. Many of the long-awaited albums turned out to be quite solid, while a few duds fell off the radar thanks to quality newcomers. Overall, this list presents what we think was some of the most awesome things we reviewed in 2015. Please note that albums like Arcturus “Arcturian”, Deafheaven’s “New Bermuda”, and My Dying Bride’s “Feel the Misery” should be in this list but since we did not review them, we did not include them as this list is for the top 25 albums of 2015 we reviewed.
25. Kadavar – Berlin (2015) Keeping up with their groovy style, the band delivers another excellent release in 2015. |
24. Cradle of Filth – Hammer of the Witches (2015) Killer Symphonic Black Metal like on their “Dusk and her Embrace” years. |
23. Kamelot – Haven (2015) Epic and lush release from this international outfit. |
22. Blaze of Sorrow – El Eremita del Fuoco (2015) For fans of Alcest and melodic/folky Black Metal. |
21. Slayer – Repentless (2015) The legends returned with a pretty solid album filled with catchy songs. |
20. Abstracter – Wound Empire (2015) Local Bay Area wizards deliver a hard-hitting release not for the weak of mind and soul. |
19. Year of the Goat – The Unspeakable (2015) Lush Psychedelic Rock for fans of older and simpler times. |
18. Moonspell – Extinct (2015) Mysterious and engaging release keeps Moonspell fresh and relevant. |
17. Outre – Ghost Chants (2015) Pummeling Black Metal that caught us completely by surprise. |
16. Vhöl - Deeper than Sky (2015) Weird and yet so addictive and good. |
15. Anomalie – Refugium (2015) Another solid Post-Black Metal release with hints of Agrypnie. |
14. Luciferian Rites – When the Light Dies (2015) Devastating Black Metal from Mexico, one of the most savage albums of 2015. |
13. Minsk – The Crash & The Draw (2015) Highly complex and extremely well crafted release from this unique band. |
12. Satyricon – Live At The Opera (2015) Truly elevating their sound with the orchestral arrangements, Satyricon delivers a great live release. |
11. Abigail Williams – The Accuser (2015) Making their own path, Abigail Williams continues their reshaping of the USBM scene with another killer release. |
10. Dead to a Dying World – Litany (2015) Astoundingly depressive release for fans of hopelessness. |
9. The Black Dahlia Murder – Abysmal (2015) Expertly crafted brutality with dramatic melodic elements. |
8. Abnormal Thought Patterns – Altered States of Consciousness (2015) Not only technically brilliant, this release features truly memorable songs. |
7. The Exploding Eyes Orchestra – I (2015) Perfect extension of the band’s members Jess and the Ancient Ones work. |
6. Skepticism – Ordeal (2015) Soul crushing release that will drive people to their limits. |
5. Les Discrets – Live at Roadburn (2015) One of the few live albums that can instantly transport you in time and space to enjoy a magical evening. |
4. Jess and the Ancient Ones - Second Psychedelic Coming: The Aquarius Tapes (2015) Brilliant evolution of this enigmatic Finish band. |
3. Enslaved – In Times (2015) Further refining their sound, Enslaved delivers one killer release filled with excellent songs. |
2. Nightwish – Endless forms Most Beautiful (2015) Combining the band’s years of experience and a very strong new lead vocalist, Floor and company delivered a truly amazing Nightwish release. |
1. Amorphis – Under the Red Cloud (2015) Reaching their full melodic potential, Amorphis delivers their best album to date with this epic release. |
