Obsidian Scapes - Obsidian Scapes (2025)

cover

Unleashing waves of downright filthy old-school Doom Metal, today we have Germany’s Obsidian Scapes and their self-titled EP. With two tracks in this release, the band showcases their raw and punishing power, bringing back memories of the early days of the genre. Highly recommended for those that like grimy and raw music, this EP brilliantly introduces the band to the scene.

Opening with “Endless Sea of Dead Mirrors”, the band unleashes some punishing slow riffs to create a very cavernous and nightmarish vibe. The song slowly progresses unraveling gravely vocals and some crafty atmospherics, not showing too much, but only enough to keep the listener engaged and intrigued by this outfit. The other track in this EP is a very solid cover of Sigh’s “At My Funeral”, done in the band’s slow and crushing doomy style, while keeping the original’s eerie creepiness.

As a whole, this self-titled EP is a solid teaser for the band’s upcoming debut “Death Chants Echo From Aphotic Void”, which is set to drop in March. If you like old-school Doom with a good emphasis on atmosphere and grainy rawness, this is a release for your collection. We can’t wait to hear what these guys deliver in a full-length release later this year!
