Unleashing one of the most fierce Black Metal releases of 2024, today we have Chaos Invocation and their latest opus “Wherever We Roam…”. Featuring members from outfits like Darkened Nocturn Slaughtercult, Darvaza, Porta Nigra, Ahnenkult, to name a few, this outfit takes on the genre with rabid ferocity and delivers eight tracks and nearly 45 minutes of pure destruction in this release. Quickly delivering the first strike, the album title track blasts away with pummeling drumming and incisive guitar work. The band’s sound is punishing and yet masterfully crafted, creating haunting dual guitar melodies alongside an intense bass guitar line. The ferocity continues as “Ideal Sodom”, “Golden Gates and Terrene Light” and “Bridges Aflame” unleash aural devastation with their sinister atmospheres and blistering intensity. Vocalist M. does a fine job adding to the madness, with tracks like “No Throne Withstands” being swift and violent, while technically crafty and explosive. More than just punishing intensity, other songs like “This World Wants Us Dead” showcase the band’s more refined skills with masterful momentum building passages and some more melodic undertones. We personally love the haunting clean vocals used in the last track, and the more atmospheric and mysterious nature of songs like “Only In Darkness”. Closing with the ravaging “Engravings Of The Quivering Pedes”, this release never relents as it is pure intensity from start to end. Chaos Invocation has been perfecting their craft over their previous four full-length releases and with “Wherever We Roam…” they achieve near perfection. The music is brutal, well polished, well produced, and its intricate and varied enough to keep the listener hooked and engaged with this release. If you are a fan of ravaging and punishing Black Metal, but still appreciate production values, this is the release to get in 2024. |
