Kommandant - Exhibition of Conquest (2024)

Unleashing all-out war, today we have Kommandant and their latest EP “Exhibition of Conquest”. Continuing the piercing onslaughts of their 2023 full-length “Titan Hammer”, this North American outfit delivers five tracks and over 27 minutes of swift destruction. Perfectly blending rawness with incisiveness, this release is full of fury and hatred, making it a top notch Black/Death Metal offering.

Opening with the ravaging “Reborn Into Violence”, the band instantly unleashes blistering drumming and crushing guitars with a certain old-school flair, to create a very chaotic and destructive atmosphere. Tracks like “Arsenal” and “Zweikampf” show the band’s raw brutality, perfectly crafting a 90’s European Black/Death atmosphere that is brilliantly complemented by Amon LG harsh screams.

The more restrained and melodic “The Standard” has to be our favorite track in this release as it emanates a certain sinister aura that is quite engaging. Closing with the piercing riffing of “Exhibition of Conquest”, Kommandant has managed to pack a lot of power in a small format for this EP. The band’s sound is quite imposing and refined, allowing for their music to get under the listener’s skin. As far as EPs in 2024, “Exhibition of Conquest” is one of the best so far.
