Omnium Gatherum - Slasher (2023)

cover

Few Melodic Death Metal bands have had the consistency and tenacity of Omnium Gatherum. Slowly building up their reputation when they were on LifeForce Records until their switch to Century Media, the band has gradually gotten better and better. With “Slasher”, the band reminds us of their quality with four killer tracks, one cover, two outtakes from their 2021 “Origin” release, and a brand new song. Be prepared to headbang non-stop from start to finish of this sweet EP, so be warned and be ready.

Opening with the brilliant “Slasher”, the band showcases their melodic prowesses alongside dreamy vocal arrangements, and the high-octane guitar wizardry of founding member Markus Vanhala, and new comer (to the band) Nick Cordle. Next up we have an insanely awesome cover of “Maniac”, perfectly blending the band’s signature sound with the original song’s chorus lines. This is definitely one of the coolest Metal covers we have heard in a while.

The EP rounds up with the crafty “Sacred” and its excellent melodic onslaughts perfectly adorned with subtle keyboards and engaging tempo changes. Lastly, the ‘ballad-esque’ “Lovelorn” nicely delivers a good dose of melancholy, creating a nice slower paced track to headbang. Overall, “Slasher” is a great EP to keep us fans waiting for more from Omnium Gatherum. The band’s sound continues to get polished, creating a fine mix of melody, faster paced sections, and overall very epic and engaging songs.
