Drowning in atmospheric brilliance, today we have Aara closing their trilogy with “Triade III: Nyx”. Delivering six sweeping songs of brutality and lush dreaminess, this release keeps the momentum of the first two parts and brings this period of the band to a close with a big bang. Highly recommended for fans of extremely atmospheric and intense music, this release will immerse you into the band’s world instantly with its relentless aural abuse. Opening with the enigmatic “Heimgesucht”, the mood is perfectly set as the band escalates their riffing onslaughts to frantic mode. The sheer intensity and ravaing speed of Berg’s guitars perfectly aligns with the pummeling drumming of J. The band’s core sound is intense and violent, greatly amplified by the haunting harsh screams of Fluss, as we can hear on riveting pieces like “Emphase der Seelenpein”, “Moribunda”, and “Unstern”. The uniqueness of Aara’s sound lies in the band’s expertly crafted mixture of atmospheric oppression and oozing melody and melancholy built into the songs. There are perfectly introduced melodic or atmospheric passages that break up the song's flow and create very unique and enjoyable mood swings in songs like “Unstern” and “Des Wanderers Traum”. Far from linear and always with some tricks up their sleeves, the band pummels their way through this release as it closes with “Edo et Edam”. It is quite enjoyable and magical how melody and atmosphere is seamlessly blended into sheer aggression and speed. There are only a handful of bands that can pull this off, and Aara has managed to do it while still keeping things fresh in every single one of their full-length and EP releases. If you like intensity and uncompromising aggression elegantly wrapped around melancholy, check out this release. |
