Frøkedal / Sâver - Split (2022)

cover

Delivering a very interesting concept of covering tracks from each other, today we have Norwegian artists Frøkedal and Sâver. In this split release we get two very unique pieces, one highly atmospheric, the second with a Folkier edge, creating a dark and engaging release that we found ourselves playing in repeat a few too many times.

Opening with Sâver’s interpretation of “Shot Puff”, we get a tense piece with lush vocal arrangements and very interesting atmospherics. The song has a certain choral edge mixed in with enigmatic percussion and a hypnotic progression. The second piece “I, Vanish”, changes things up with a Folk flavor, but with an equally tense and magical atmosphere. Here we get elegant basic instrumentation and Anne Lise Frøkedal’s dreamy vocals.

As a whole, this split is magical and transports the listener to mysterious lands. Clocking in at around 10 minutes, this is definitely one of those releases that will grab you from start to end, and will deliver high-replay value. If you like dark and somber atmospheres with enigmatic folk vibes, similar to older Hexvessel, this release should be in your playlist.
