Kanonenfieber - Der Füsilier (2023)

Delivering two tracks of switch brutality and incisiveness, today we have Kanonenfieber and their short but punishing EP “Der Füsilier”. Featuring two relentless tracks, this EP showcases the band’s raw power alongside their melodic undertones and craftiness. For fans of Black Metal that is just weird enough to be different, this is a band to keep in your sights.

Opening with the funky “Der Füsilier I”, we get the perfect mixture of growls, snarls, blistering guitars, and ravaging drums. However, the melodic nature of the music is what pulls the listener and keeps him engaged through a series of aggressive onslaughts and interludes with spoken audio samples. The second side “Der Füsilier II”, opens up with a bleak melodic introduction that quickly escalates into a dark and pestilent piece that reminds us a bit of Eisregen and their ‘slower’ tracks.

Overall, “Der Füsilier” is a brilliant taste of Kanonenfieber’s aggressive and yet melodic take on the genre. It also shows their creativity in crafting uniquely sickening songs that have a certain oppressive vibe while keeping things interesting and punishing. Not quite the release for purists of the genre, but rather the more adventurous kind that likes things weird and heavy.
