Severe Torture - Fisting the Sockets (2022)

cover

Hailing from the Netherlands, Sever Torture is one of those bands that has been around for a while and still does not get the recognition they deserve. With their “Fisting the Sockets” EP, the band’s first formal release in over 12 years, we get three tracks of crushing (and catchy) Death Metal with that old-school Dutch flair and some modern elements.

Opening with the album title track, we get a nice mellow introduction that suddenly transitions into blistering drumming and incisive riffing. Dennis Schreurs vocals are firm and perfectly bleed traditional Death Metal elements into the band’s hectic music. Inciting furious headbanging, “Entangled In Hate” is the perfect follow-up oozing catchiness and those brilliant guitar leads that distinguish the early days of the genre.

Not wasting any time, “Hands and Head Not Found” shows an even faster and more aggressive side of the band while having a few tempo changes that infuses modernity into their style. As a whole, “Fisting the Sockets” is an enggaing EP that shows that Sever Torture still has it and its ready for a massive return, so be warned and be ready.
