Corpsegrinder - Corpsegrinder (2022)

As one of the most identifiable people in Metal, George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher has made a career thanks to his punishing growls, furious headbanging skills, and bigger than life personality. Unleashing his debut solo album, Corpsegrinder delivers ten tracks and over 30 minutes of signature Death Metal with some splashes of Thrash Metal.

Featuring Charlie Bellmore and Nick Bellmore handling the instruments, the album starts with the pummeling “Acid Vat” track, which also receives some additional magic from Erik Rutan. Marching victoriously through songs like “Bottom Dweller”, “On Wings of Carnage”, “All Souls Get Torn” and “Death Is The Only Key”, Corpsegrinder showcases his usual versatility and energy alongside a barrage of chugging riffs and crafty tempo changes.

While there are of course some Cannibal Corpse-esque elements, this release delineates unique and personalized elements to this solo album, as we can hear in pieces like “Crimson Proof”, “Devourer of Souls” and our favorite “Defined by Your Demise” and its piercing guitar work. Other pieces like “Master of the Longest Night” and “Vaguely Human” have a blistering pace that have a bit of a Dethklok edge to them.

This album is definitely a must buy release for any Death Metal fan as it showcases both the known side of Corpsegrinder alongside additional ideas and influences. All tracks in this release are hard-hitting, delivering plenty of heavy head banging moments alongside crushing growls. The album also gets bonus points for the Nathan Explosion-like epic cover art.
