Top 10 Releases Pushing the Boundaries of 2017

We always strive to find the weirdest and oddest bands that push the boundaries of Metal and extreme music. In 2017 we had quite a few releases that blew us away, here are the ones we think are the top 10 of the year.

Honorable Mention: Fleurety - Fragmenta Cuinsvis Aetatis Contemporaneae (2017)

For a band that has existed since 1991, Fleurety has released only three full-length releases and a wide variety of weird EP's. This is definitely one of their weirdest.

Mixing SKA with Punk and Metal elements, this band and their turbo polka's completely pushes the musical boundaries.

9. Mord’A’Stigmata – Hope (2017)

Hailing from Poland, this band continues to innovate with their bizarre and powerful sound. "Hope" continues to push the envelope and lands them on our 2017 list.

8. Slagmaur – Thill Smitts Terror (2017)

Slagmaur is one of the most terrifying bands to ever come out of Norway, and with "Thill Smitts Terror" the deliver some unique scares and thrills.

7. Netra – Ingrats (2017)

One-man French project Netra keeps impressing listeners with their sublime blend of Black Metal, trip-hop and some jazzy elements. "Ingrats" delivers their most unique and mature release to date.

Filled with crazy Industrial and Electronic elements, this album completely caught us by surprise. If you want something so bizarre that you can't stop listening to it, "Architecture of Future Tribes" is definitely it.

Eerie and quite demoralizing, this release is what we would imagine will be playing on repeat when you are standing in the depths of hell.

4. Las Casas Viejas – goul/H (2017)

Definitely one of the most unique releases of 2017, mixing all kinds of genres that seemingly would not go together, Las Casas Viejas pulls off one hell of a trippy release.

3. Lunacy – Act One. Youth Manifesto (2017)

Far from being a traditional band, Lunacy continues to refine their sound with this excellent full-length release.

2. Mountaineer – Sirens & Slumber (2017)

Highly atmospheric and very mellow, "Sirens & Slumber" is one very dreamy and yet unique release.
