Lustre – Still Innocence (2017)

cover

Unleashing over 34 minutes of highly Atmospheric Black Metal, today we have one-man Lustre with “Still Innocence”. Featuring five aurally oppressive songs, this release continues the legacy of the band as one of the premiere atmospheric outfits. Filled with melancholy and catchiness, this release will certainly resonate with the listener after the first spin.

Opening with the hypnotic pace of “Dreaded Still”, Lustre sets a very ethereal and trippy mood thanks to the keyboards taking the center stage. The mood transforms into a more mysterious and eerie one with the powerful “Nestle Within”. The atmosphere of this track is quite magical as it feels like from a different realm of existence. The percussions set the tone very effectively and appease the listener.

After the instrumental “Let Go Like Leaves of Fall”, the band’s sound gets a bit more sinister with the incisive notes that kick off “Reverence Road”. The transition into some weird kind of Darkwave/synth-pop in clearly something to behold and actually quite intoxicating, if you are into that type of thing.

Closing with “Without End”, we are left with another lush track that perfectly balances the beauty of the melody and the bleakness of the faint harsh BM screams drowned into the mix. Overall, “Still Innocence” is a solid release that fully unravels after more than a few spins. If you enjoyed the band’s previous releases, this should definitely be of your interest.
