Falaise – My Endless Immensity (2017)

cover

Hailing from Italy, today we have Post-Black Metal/Blackgaze newcomers Falaise and their sophomore release “My Endless Immensity”. Following the footsteps of bands like Amesoeurs, An Autumn for Crippled Children, Heretoir, etc, this band delivers 52 minutes of highly melodic and intoxicating music that will make you an instant fan of their sound.

After a mood setting intro, the release kicks off with the mellow atmosphere of “The Embrace of Water”. Providing some brilliant Amesoeurs flashbacks, this track perfectly showcases the band’s rich and powerful sound. With dreamy guitars and contrasting tempo changes, tracks like “You Towards Me”, “Crimson Clouds”, and “Dreariness” deliver excellent atmospheric experiences that evoke the likes of Alcest and Lantlos, but with Falaise’s own unique touch.

Moving into harsher territories, “The Abyss” and “Sweltering City” deliver harsh vocals and punishing passages that are quite heavy, and brilliantly contrast with the more melodic nature of the band’s sound. As the release winds down, the band delivers the eerie “Pristine Universe”, a very atmospheric piece that transports the listener on a sidereal journey, similar to the music of bands like Apocynthion. Falaise is quite skilled in crafting unique atmospheric experiences and this release showcases that ability to its furthest extent.

Saving one of the best for last, the 10-minute “A Veil of Stars” provides a nice overview of the band’s multiple musical elements and ends the album with a bang. The Amesoeurs cover of “Les Ruches Malades” is delivered with perfection and with a small twist on vocals that fans will appreciate. Overall, “My Endless Immensity” is one hell of a release that continues to establish Falaise as one of the most promising young bands of the genre. If you like highly atmospheric Post-Black Metal, look no further and get a copy of this release.
