Lux Ferre - Atrae Materiae Monumentum (2009)

cover

With all the hundreds of Black Metal albums being released every month is hard to determine which ones are worth buying. Today we have Lux Ferre from Portugal and their second full-length album “Atrae Materiae Monumentum”, this release is one the ones we can easily recommend you spend your money on.

The band plays a very basic and Black Metal that has the old-school feeling to it but it’s not under produced to sound like it was recorded in the woods or in the bathroom. Lux Ferre centers their sound on aggressive riffing and relentless drumming, an old but effective formula that fans of true Black Metal will greatly appreciate.

With all the band’s permanent members involved in several other Black Metal bands, we get a very refined sound that while not extremely spectacular, it’s very direct and brutal. The rawness of the music will surely appeal people that like Horna, Azaghal, and all other true Black Metal bands.

For over 40 minutes, Lux Ferre show the can create solid BM songs centered around a wide variety of powerful riffs that will make your skin crawl, just like BM is intended to do. While plenty of people will argue that “Atrae Materiae Monumentum” is an album that is not original and it sounds a bit tired, we must say that if you like BM you can expect releases to sound alike and if they are all good, who cares!. Consistency is a very important thing when you want new releases of the music you do enjoy.

If you are looking for a solid BM album that might not be extremely original, check Lux Ferre out and give them a chance. This band will quickly become one of your favorites.
