Nefarium – Ad Discipulum (2010)

cover

There have been plenty of Black Metal releases in the last few months, but none of them stick out the way “Ad Discipulum” does. Nefarium is a Black Metal band hailing from Italy, and they have clear Swedish BM influences in their sound. Featuring Garghuf from Enthroned fame, you know you are in for an intense trip down to hell with “Ad Discipulum”.

For all of you that are tired of watered down BM releases, Nefarium is here to blow you away with this no holds barred album that will surely be on many top 10 Black Metal albums list in 2010. The band captures the Swedish BM essence with perfection and brings it upon us in the most furious way to every come out of Italy.

One of the best characteristics of the band is the speed they have in their music and the tightness and cleanness that is executed with, not many bands pull this off as graciously as Nefarium. Sounding a lot like Marduk, Dark Funeral, and old 1349, Nefairum is probably one of the best BM bands that the scene currently has. Still, the band is not fully recognized for their efforts, but we theorize that this will change after the world gets a hold of “Ad Discipulum”.

A paring of furious blazing fast guitar riffs with monstrous drumming is what will make you be Nefairum’s bitch after the first song. The band has enough dept that each song has its own identity allowing the album to never get dull or boring. From what we can read, each song speaks blasphemies about one major character in religious history, and we love the whole concept behind this.

Songs like “Servus Servorum Satanae” show the potential the band has, since it features a furious BM melody but adds extra elements (Violins) that give an extra epicness feeling to the music. This song is our favorite of “Ad Discipulum”. The whole album is only 35 minutes long, but since the first minute the band will blow you away.

Overall, “Ad Discipulum” is one of the best Black Metal albums we have heard in 2010, and to be honest, in quite a while. If these Italian blasphemers keep their shit together we can see them in the future being hailed alongside Marduk, Dark Funeral, etc.
