Ereb Altor - The End (2010)

cover

To complete the Viking Metal trifecta released by Napalm Records this March/April we have “The End” by Ereb Altor. This band plays Epic Viking Doom Metal….. we have heard Epic Nautical Doom Metal and now Viking EDM, looking into the band’s founders we find that both of them are part of Isole, and that is exactly how this band sounds too much alike.

Ereb Altor has crafted a very unique sounding Epic Doom Metal that most fans of the genre will find intoxicating, having heavy influences from Candlemass, Isole, Ahab, and old Bathory. And while this is not 100% or cup of tea, we find this release very enjoyable. Being huge Doom Metal fans, it took us quite a while to really get into Epic Doom and Funeral Doom bands, and it can’t get any better than Ereb Altor (and Ahab).

With 7 songs and over 48 minutes of music, you know you are in for a journey into the depths of Ereb Altor world. Releases like this tend to immerse you into the band’s world with hypnotic music. It might be the repeated riffs, the Heavy Metal-esque vocals, or just the thick atmosphere created by the band, but for some reason listening to this release feels like walking around with a huge dark cloud on top of your head.

As you all know these type of albums are very slow paced, so if you are looking for something hectic and brutal, steer clear from this release. If you are a fan of the genre, then “The End” is a brilliant release that will surely replace the latest Ahab album from your playlist. Ereb Altor is a beast of a band that has been refining their sound since their first demo, and they can only get better with time, so start your collection of their albums before they become legendary collector’s items.
