Avsky – Scorn (2010)

Hailing from Sweden, we have Avsky, a two man band that is here to rescue use form formulaic and lame Black Metal. You wont find any keyboards or fancy element in this release, only straight in your face raw Black Metal.

“Scorn” presents us with 6 tracks for over 45 minutes of hellish Black Metal. The band does a great job creating raw sounding music that would most likely be part of the ambiance music down in hell.

The guitar riffing is more diverse than the majority of current BM releases, which makes it refreshing. We also have a few hints of Death Metal influences in the band’s music, making it better paced than the senseless aural assaults that current ‘raw’ BM bands employ. The crunchiness of the guitar distortion is very nice and it’s perfectly captured with the production behind the album.

The drumming is somewhat linear, just a few tempo changes here and there. However it never takes away from the guitar, and bass guitar driven insanity behind the music. The screams are top notch as always and sound like a somebody screaming while  they are getting slowly shredded (or at lest we imagine it this way).

Overal Avsky has created a very solid album with “Scorn”, while it might not be in the top 10 of 2010, this album will get a spot on our regular playlist. If you are a fan of raw, hellish and decently produced Black Metal then you will love “Scorn”.
