Out of the hundreds of albums we get to listen to every month, we only get 2-3 that are just completely different. Val Canto and their A Capella ‘Metal’ get’s the nood this month. “Tribe Of Force” features 13 tracks with no ‘Metal’ instruments other than drums. But what makes the band’s music is the vocalists emulating the rhythm guitar and the keyboard parts to perfection. While this might sound weird, and it does take a bit to get used to, the band’s actual sound is awesome and very interesting compared to anything else you will listen (in Metal). Having 3 cover songs on “Tribe Of Force”, Val Canto continues in the same vein as before featuring cover songs and taking them to a completely level than their original counter parts. The best cover on this album is an amazing rendition of “Masters Of Puppets” by Metallica. Vocal wise the band is amazing at creating vocal harmonies that replace the original instruments on the cover songs, and that sound in the way a normal guitar or keyboard would sound on their own tracks. The band also features 3 guest vocalists on “Tribes Of Force” most notable Tony Kakko on the song “Hearted”. The drumming pulls as the music together very well and keeps the music sounding Metal. I would imagine that without this element the band would song very bland and like any other choir out there. Overall “Tribe Of Force” is a very interesting album from a band that is taking Metal music in a interesting direction. So if you are open minded and like vocal harmonies then you will love this release. |
