Megasus – Megasus (2009)

cover

Featuring members of the company that developed the Rock Band and Guitar Hero games, Megasus had even some tracks featured in those games before dropping their self-titled debut album “Megasus”.

And while the guys might be talented game developers (if they had any direct involvement in the games) they are not very talented at writing music. Hiding behind a very rudimentary sounding distortion this band has nothing else going on for them.

I always try to be objective, and while there are hints of promise in some of the songs, they are quickly drowned by the terrible distortion, somewhat traditional of Stoner/Sludge Metal, but in Megasus case, it only ruins the band’s sound. The aimless direction that some songs take, like “Swords”, make me wonder how they got their music in their own video games.

The vocals sound funky thanks to the distortion used on them and get on your nerves by the 3rd song of this album, but maybe bigger fans of the genres this band plays might appreciate them since I’ve heard similar styles before. The drumming is probably the best thing in this album in my opinion, but then again, it’s hindered by the shitty or shitty sounding production that just drives me nuts.

One thing that you can say this band has going for them is the fact that their songs are quite diverse in nature, and if they got their shit together (i.e their sound) this mixture of genres in the music would be interesting to listen to. Other than this I must say that I would pass on this CD like it was an Ebola infected person, but then again this is just my opinion, based on the fact that I can’t stand poorly sounding albums (except for a few BM releases).
